Solar Water Heating
A solar water heater is a series of tubes or rectangular plates that efficiently convert sunlight into heat. It does not replace a traditional or tankless water heater. Cold water is pumped to the roof where it is heated. When the desired temperature is reached, the hot water is stored in a tank that feeds a traditional water heater, thus preheating the water and saving energy. The water may also be used in a radiant floor system.
- Water heating system only costs approximately $6,500 installed.
- Water and radiant floor heating system costs approximately $9,500 installed.
- Both qualify for a 30% federal tax credit of up to $2,000
Tankless Water Heaters
Tankless water heaters heat water very rapidly using either electricity, natural gas, or propane, only using energy when water is flowing through the system. They cost more upfront but save money in the long run due to significantly better efficiency over the life of the water heater. Tankless water heaters also have a longer operational life. They take up much less space in a cramped condo.
We currently sell and install Bosch natural gas and Stiebel-Eltron electric tankless water heaters. The electric tankless is recommended for houses/condominiums that have only one or two bathrooms. Gas tankless water heaters are recommended for anything larger.
Solar Photovoltaic(PV) Systems
We currently offer PV systems from 1 Kilowatt on up. To keep your costs lower we recommend that the system be tied to the grid, or feeding excess energy directly to PEPCO. The energy your PV system produces is then subtracted from any energy your home consumes from PEPCO.
- A typical home PV installation is 2 Kilowatts, and costs approximately $22,000 installed.
- Qualifies for a 30% federal tax credit up to $2,000
- DC residents may qualify for an upcoming $3,000 credit per Kilowatt
Flooring
We can install a variety of sustainable flooring materials including bamboo, cork, recycled carpeting, FSC-certified hardwood, marmoleum, and linoleum.
Decking & Fencing
We work with TREX and a variety of FSC-certified, engineered, and recycled materials to create beautiful decks and fencing for your home. We also offer beautiful, custom wood gates.
Greenroof Installation
A greenroof, or plant-covered roof, has many benefits in addition to beauty. They help insulate, prevent stormwater runoff and water pollution, and double the life of your roof. Maintenance requires only semi-annual clearing of weeds and fertilizing.
- Greenroofs require new waterproofing and cost approximately $22 per square foot.
- The most cost effective time to green your roof is when you already need a new roof or roof replacement.
Efficiency Inspections
Insulation is the first step in conservation and money saving. After that, there are a variety of ways to improve energy saving in your home. Get off to a good start with a detailed energy audit.
Home Automation
Save energy by letting an automated system manage lighting and other devices whenever you walk out the door of your home.
